Here are a few reminders for students. Read this information together with the VCE Exams Navigator 2012 and your personalized exam timetable.

  1. The exams are conducted by the VCAA and will be held at the South Barwon Civic Centre. You should enter from the bowling alley car park side. Students from Oberon High School will also be using this venue for exams, except for the GAT and English (Nov). You will find that this is an excellent venue – free from the distractions of school.
  2. Read your timetable carefully and plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the beginning of reading time. You will need to sit in the seat allocated to you.
  3. Make sure that you have read the rules for the examinations. The rules are based on common sense and designed to ensure that all students across the state have equal access to the best and fairest exam conditions.
  4. You should take photo ID and your personal timetable with your VCAA student number on it.
  5. Carefully note what you are able to take into each exam with you. DO NOT take mobile phones, ipods, or programmable watchesThese are not permitted in the exam room. Any infringement of this may lead to confiscation of the item for up to 3 months whilst the case is investigated by VCAA.
  6. Extra pens would be useful and a pencil is required for multiple choice answer sheets. White out or liquid paper is not allowed. If you are allowed a dictionary, ensure that it does not also have a thesaurus in it. You are not allowed to use a thesaurus  and when this is confiscated you will then also lose the dictionary. You must not have any annotations or notes in your dictionary. Read the section on the use of calculators carefully. You cannot take a graphics or programmable calculator in to any exam that is not a Maths exam. Please use a pen for essays and a 2B pencil for multiple choice answer sheets. Pencil cases are not permitted. A clear plastic snap lock bag is ideal. If you wear glasses you should not take the case into the exam.
  7. Make sure that you are sitting in the correct seat. Your name and VCAA student number will be on your table. The script booklets should also have your student VCAA number on them.
  8. During reading time you must not mark your question or answer papers in any way.
  9. Please note that you will not be permitted to leave the hall until the end of the exam.
  10. You may wear appropriate casual clothing. You will not be able to wear a hood or cap in the exam room.
  11. Try not to take valuables with you as bags may have to be left outside the hall where they cannot be supervised.
  12. Food and drink cannot be taken into the exam room. See page 4 for regulations regarding bottled water.
  13. If you are sick or there are other dramas in your life that will hinder your performance in the exams, within two weeks of the exams, please see Ms Milne. If there is an emergency before an exam please ring Ms Milne on 52435355. You may be eligible for a Derived Exam Score. (See p. 17 of the 2012 Exam Navigator)
  14. Please ensure that you are familiar with the emergency evacuation procedures for the venue. If you are asked to evacuate you are to remain silent and are NOT to speak to other students.
  15. Please ask questions if there is something that you don’t understand, or something that is unclear. At school you can contact Ms Milne; at the exam center, speak to one of the supervisors.
  16. Good luck! The VCAA supervisors will try to make this as stress free an experience for you as they can!
