For students:

• ‘Ace your Exams’ and ‘Memory Mnemonics’ programs from Elevate Education will run for all Year 12 students on May 21 during General Assembly, periods 1 and 2. Feedback from Belmont High students in the past has been that these are excellent, engaging seminars. Attendance is required by all Yr 12 VCE students. VCAL students not required.

• Tsfx are running FREE ‘MASTERING THE EXAMS’ lectures in Melbourne from 10.00 – 2.00pm May 12 and June 2. These lectures normally cost $200 and cover an excellent range of skills and techniques for exam success. Check the information at www.tfsx.com.au . All that is required of students is a minimum $10 donation at the door. This money is donated to the Fred Hollows Foundation and Beyond Blue. Visit www.tsfx.com.au for more info and to register.

  • For parents;

Don’t forget the Elevate Education parent information evening Monday May 21 6.30pm – 7.30pm School Library. Learn how you can support your child in their quest for VCE success without over stepping the line and becoming the enemy! Elevate will address the following issues:

    • How do I help to motivate my child?

    • How do I help my child to manage their time?

    • What are reasonable expectations I should have of my child?

    • What type of work should they be doing?

    • Is technology a distraction or can MySpace and Facebook help my child?

This is the first time that we have run this seminar, but as the student feedback to Elevate’s programs has been so positive, I am sure that this presentation will be equally engaging and informative. Parents of Yr 10, 11 and 12 students are invited to attend. Some websites to visit in the meantime are: www.elevateeducation.com,

Don’t forget our school VCE blog full of VCE information and links to useful websites at http://bhsvce.wordpress.com

As we approach the end of Term 1, and almost a third of the way through the Year 12 year, it’s time for you to take stock of your progress. Have a look at the short questionnaire on  the END OF TERM 1 PROGRESS CHECK page to assess how you are going.

YEAR 12 COMMON ROOM

Thanks to the persistent efforts of the School Captain team, the year 12 Common Room, is now up and running in P6 at recess times and lunchtimes. Please read the rules on the Yr 12 Common Room page on this blog.  Please remember that this is a trial arrangement and that the room must be clean and tidy and ready for class at the end of each lunchtime and recess. Special thanks to Ms Dower and Ms Wright and the other teachers who use this room the rest of the time.

STUDYING IN THE USA?

For Yr 11 students. Would you like to study in the USA after Yr 12? Are you an elite sports person who may be considered for a US sports scholarship? There will be an information session at the Cook Theatre at geelong Grammar School on Tuesday April 24 @ 7.15pm. You need to register first with Mr McKenzie.

Defence Force at BHS

Parents of all Year 12 students are invited to come to a Parent Information Evening on Thursday Feb 23 (NOT the 16th as previously advertised on the student calendar) at 7.00pm in the Library. Speakers will include Garry Schultz (Principal), Margot Milne (VCE Coordinator) and Peter McKenzie (Pathways manager).

We look forward to meeting you and providing you with answers to questions that you may have about students achieving their best, surviving VCE, school requirements of Yr 12 students and opportunities and options for students beyond Year 12.

Welcome back to all VCE students. Your Yr 12 camps were a huge success and the feedback from your House Leaders about your efforts and the way you conducted yourselves was excellent – a great start to the year!

All students in VCE (years 11 and 12) should have comleted their VCE enrolment form at the year level meetings on Monday Feb. 6. If you have not yet done so, please see Ms Milne at the VCE office.

Congratulations to all Year 12 students on your VCE and VCAL results. Your VCE or VCAL certificate is now available for collection from the office at school.

This year 25% of our students achieved ATAR scores of greater than 80. This is a really wonderful result. We also have 14 new members of the VCE 90s Club. Eight of these students had ATAR scores above 96.00. Please cheeck the VCE High Achievers page on this blog for the full list of names entered into the 90s Club for 2011.

Special congratulations to our 2011 Dux Reece Hodge.
